FRIENDS OF THE FORGE
Volunteers Wanted! Get Involved. Get Active.

Volunteers are the backbone of The Forge: Lemont Quarries community.

As a volunteer at The Forge: Lemont Quarries, you will have endless opportunities to make a difference, share your skills, and connect with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Explore impactful adventures as a Friend of The Forge volunteer. Individual and group volunteer opportunities are available.

As part of The Forge Charitable Adventures (TFCA), a unique environmentally-focused non-profit, Friends of The Forge volunteers can participate in the restoration and beautification of the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area through conservation and restoration projects, our Clean Up Kids! (CLUK!) program, horticulture and sustainability efforts, special events support, and more.

A volunteer’s talents, experiences, abilities, interests, and availability will factor into the specific volunteer area where you are placed. Volunteers generally work one half-day per week or two weekend days per month.

We appreciate your time, talents, energy, and enthusiasm and we look forward to helping you find an opportunity that is fun and rewarding.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

NATURAL AREA CONSERVATION

The Forge: Lemont Quarries has removed over 10 acres of invasive species from the property, the primary culprits being buckthorn and honeysuckle, but there’s a lot of work still to be done. We are committed to continuing our invasive plant and tree removal and restoration efforts in order to restore the local ecosystem to its more natural state.

Available April - October.

CLEAN UP KIDS! (CLUK!) & PARK SUSTAINABILITY

Park Sustainability volunteers are a critical element in keeping our community clean. Volunteers are dedicated to cleaning up the property by removing litter and other refuse, thus protecting our natural habitat - both on land and water. Park Sustainability volunteers also support our environmental efforts that encourage guests to recycle. The Forge: Lemont Quarries is in the process of setting up a compost program, which Park Sustainability volunteers will help to support. The Clean Up Kids! (CLUK!) program is our horticulture and sustainability program for our little adventurers looking to get involved with the park’s clean up projects.

Available April - October.

TRAIL RESTORATION & DEVELOPMENT

The Forge: Lemont Quarries has restored over 5 miles of walking, biking and running trails on the property and has plans to continue building an expansive network of trails and obstacles throughout the park.

Available April - October.

HOW DO I BECOME A VOLUNTEER?

Potential volunteers should orient themselves with the overall Friends of the Forge volunteer program and review specific volunteer opportunities.

If interested, get started by completing a Volunteer Interest Form to indicate your interests, experience, availability, and areas of interest. Our Team will work with you to match your preferences with our volunteer needs.
