ACCESSIBILITY AT THE FORGE

The Forge: Lemont Quarries offers unique activities and programming for adventurers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Learn below on all the different accessible activities available at The Forge!

Adaptive Adventures will return in the spring!

Climb & Zipline Adventure: A unique and first-of-its-kind-haul-systems allows Universal Access to our iconic ropes course, the world's largest and tallest. The first level of Hex Tower 5 has a unique system of cantilever arms that allow differently-abled guests to interact with the same ropes course elements as our able-bodied guests.

The East X Tower allows for guests to be elevated to the top of the 54' tower and transferred to our 1000' zipline where they then soar over The Forge Quarry.

We have a specialized team of staff who have undergone additional training beyond our rigorous basic course to handle guests with disabilities.

Kids Adventure Zone: This enclosed play area is a great way for sensory-sensitive adventurers to explore and have fun. Featuring a 12-foot high safety-netted structure, adventurers can challenge themselves on more than 30 fun elements. Guests can book private sessions to ensure fellow adventurers adhere to sensory-sensitive play.

Paddlesports: Featuring Single Kayaks and Canoes with specialized seats, outriggers, and adaptive handles, guests use our accessible dock to transfer from their assistive devices and easily make their way onto the water.

Bikes: With recumbent trikes, guests who can't ride traditional bikes are able to easily balance and pedal on three wheels. (Note: these are not handcycles and are intended for guests with disabilities that make it difficult to balance)

Reservations: For use of our accessible options please contact our Guest Services Department a minimum of two weeks in advance to ensure we have the equipment and specially trained staff available for your experience. Groups and individuals are encouraged to reach out. Please note that while we will make the best effort to accommodate as many people as we possibly can, there may be certain things that prevent us from allowing access to our course and this may require a discussion with our team to ensure that a safe experience and environment can be maintained.

Adaptive Adventure FAQ

Are the trails at The Forge wheelchair accessible?

Our limestone pathways are generally accessible, this is weather dependent and if there has been recent precipitation they may become difficult to navigate. Some areas of the park have mulch trails and some of the pathways have a steep grade.

What are the bathroom facilities at the ropes course?

We only have portable bathrooms on the west side of the park. There is an accessible portable bathroom available.

Are there covered and indoor areas at the ropes course?

We have very limited indoor/covered areas on the west side of the park. We recommend an umbrella, plenty of water to stay hydrated, and sunscreen to prepare for extreme weather temps.
